Turner’s Explosive Second Half Leads Manhattan Past Quinnipiac On Senior Night

Zavier Turner was determined not to let Manhattan’s senior night end in disappointment. Honored before the game alongside fellow soon-to-be graduates Rich Williams, Calvin Crawford, and Zane Waterman, Turner stole the show Sunday night with a season-high 31 points along with eight assists to lead the Jaspers past Quinnipiac 92-86 in double overtime. A 17-4 run over the final five minutes of the first half helped Manhattan fend off Niagara and pull even at 8-8 in conference play. The Jaspers maintained a double-digit advantage through most of the second half en route to an 82-72 victory. Continue reading

The Broncs retain their spot atop this week’s rankings after becoming the first team to reach 10 league wins. Stevie Jordan led four Broncs in double figures in the win at Quinnipiac. The sophomore point guard was 7-11 from the field, with six assists. Continue reading

MAAC Weekly Recap & Power Rankings – January 31

It was an eventful week in the MAAC, and one full of rivalry games. The Battle of the Bridge was renewed in Buffalo, the New Jersey trio squared off against one another in the Hourglass rivalry, Fairfield and Quinnipiac met for the first time this season, along with Iona and Manhattan, and I’m pretty sure Siena and Saint Peter’s don’t want to see each other again for a long time. MAAC Weekly Recap – December 27

These are the final MAAC Power Rankings before the start of non-conference play this week. This season, the MAAC shifted from a 20-game schedule to an 18 game slate in which each team will forego one home and one road contest. The league has played 20 games each of the last four seasons beginning with 2013-14 when Monmouth and Quinnipiac joined the league. Continue reading

The Gaels retain the top spot in this week’s rankings despite a split of the week. Tim Cluess’ squad played St. John’s tight in the first half, entering the break knotted at 25, but a 19-4 run out of intermission propelled the Johnnies to victory in the teams’ first meeting since 1995.
