The All-NEC One More Chance Team

As all of the NEC teams are entering the last few weeks of conference play and jockeying for position in the NEC Tournament, it got me thinking about all the players I’ve seen who never represented the conference in the ‘Big Dance.’ So, what if we were able to give all those players one last chance, on the same team! NEC Semifinals Roundup – March 8

The NEC has to be thrilled with how both games were showcased this afternoon on Fox College Sports and MSG+. Both semifinal matchups went right down to the wire, but in the end there will be a rematch of the 2009 NEC championship game between Mount St. Mary’s and Robert Morris. To the recaps… Continue reading

Big Apple Buckets NEC All-Conference Teams and Awards

With the regular season in the rear view mirror, now is the time for John and I to release our consensus 2013-14 all-conference teams and awards. In all honestly, determining the award winners was easier than expected, while situating 15 all-conference players in their appropriate place proved to be more difficult. Nevertheless, here they are! Tempo-Free NEC: The Player of the Year Chase

The race for the NEC Player of the Year is picking up steam. I think most pundits would have Robert Morris’ Karvel Anderson leading Bryant’s Alex Francis at the moment. It certainly makes sense. Continue reading

NEC Trade Value – The First Edition

Every once in a while we like to have fun here at Big Apple Buckets. It doesn’t always have to be “make fun of Jon Rothstein’s optimism until he blocks me on Twitter” kind of fun, but more like the “well this doesn’t make a ton of sense” kind of fun. This time, please allow me to channel my inner Bill Simmons. Continue reading

NEC Roundup, January 9 – The Opening Night

It’s that time of the year, when every team gets a clean slate. No matter how bad your favorite team was during the non-conference season, they were 0-0 in the NEC standings before 7 pm. The real season for a one-bid conference like the NEC starts now! Onto the action… Continue reading

Big Apple Bucket’s NEC All-Conference Second and Third Teams

With nearly half of the 2013 NEC all-conference selections no longer residing inside the conference, there’s plenty of opportunity for players to emerge into the limelight. Estimating who lands in the top 15 won’t be easy, but Big Apple Buckets will begin the process today by naming our all-conference second and third teams as the first installment of our two-part series. Tomorrow, we’ll present our NEC first team along with our player, rookie, coach, and defensive player of the year selections. Continue reading

A Holiday Special: NEC, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

With the NEC – and most of college basketball – off for the past couple of days, I broke out my periodic review of all things NEC. Unfortunately, I had some difficultly finding an equal amount of good and bad stories, so I did my best to sprinkle in some positive news. To be quite frank, it hasn’t been the greatest non-conference season for the NEC. The Ken Pomeroy rating for the conference has dipped from #19, at the start of the season, to #25. With little time left before conference play begins, it appears the NEC is destined for a maximum of two combined NCAA and NIT bids, at best. Continue reading
